For my Virtual Technology and Design Senior Capstone project, I worked with a team to design a web-based game. In the game, the player makes decisions that impact a community and the salmon living in a nearby river. The goal of the game is to balance the well-being of the community with the well-being of the salmon. We designed this game specifically for high school aged students.
Our goal was to educate teenagers about the relationship between salmon and human populations. There is a lack of awareness of the problems salmon currently face due to human activities; and a lack of awareness of the importance salmon have to communities and the environment. We hope this game will increase awareness on these topics.
Our final deliverable for this project was a prototype of the game. To see the prototype, go to scales.jacobshagen.org
Below are images from the prototype we made and an animation one of my team members made to show the game's potential.
The video below, made by Joseph Rasmussen, shows the vision we had in mind for Scales.
